Farkeep is an action adventure roleplaying game heavily inspired by games such as Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Undertale and Hyper Light Drifter. The game takes part in the world of Kerroan, a medieval fantasy inspired world where mystery lurks around every corner. The player will embark on an adventure and steer the tides of an epic storyline.
Farkeep started out back in 2016 as a side project to the university classes. The game was first written in Lua with Löve 2D but it was decided that something more sophisticated was required. We dreamed of a pixelart game with 3D shading and 3D visual effects as well as a whole new way of working with level creation for this type of game. We built an engine and related tools to support this dream. We call this engine the Candide Engine, and it is written in C# with MonoGame as a framework.
The idea and design of Farkeep has been developed and conceptualized throughout the years and have gone through multiple iterations, each iteration learning from the mistakes from the previous one. What we have now has been painted widely by the excellent indie games we played throughout these years, including Undertale, Hyper Light Drifter, Stardew Valley and Secrets of Grindea. However, the foundation has always been the epic adventure inspired from late night D&D sessions and Legend of Zelda.
